The Truth of the Matter

Posted By Administration, Thursday, February 06, 2014

As we step into our most visible time of the year with the annual Girl Scout Cookie Sale, it is time to review what Girl Scouts of Eastern Oklahoma stands for, believes in and supports. This is a great opportunity to affirm our organization's positions on a number of topics with you as we continue to receive inquiries from our members and want to ensure everyone has accurate information.

Members of Girl Scouts of Eastern Oklahoma appreciate the rich diversity of values, opinions and beliefs surrounding religious and social issues. Our membership is open to all girls and adults who accept the Girl Scout Promise and Law and who meet membership requirements. We are an inclusive organization, and we do not discriminate or recruit on the basis of race, religion, ethnicity, socioeconomic status or national origin. We welcome members of all abilities. The organization does not permit advocacy or promotion of personal lifestyle or orientation.

Neither Girl Scouts of Eastern Oklahoma nor Girl Scouts of the USA partner with Planned Parenthood, nor do we have any plans to do so in the future, and we do not utilize Planned Parenthood materials in our programs. Our organization does not take a position on abortion or birth control. We believe these matters are best decided by girls, their families, and their faith communities.

As always, we remain focused on our mission to help girls develop courage, confidence and character and make the world an even better place.

Roberta Preston, CEO

It's Time For Cookies!

Posted By Ingrid Williams, Wednesday, February 05, 2014

The Girl Scout Cookie Program provides an important ingredient for leadership by helping girls develop five key skills: Goal Setting, Decision Making, Money Management, People Skills and Business Ethics. These five skills are an important component of the Girl Scout Leadership Experience.

Girls earn Cookie Credit which may be used to discount the cost of activities like day camp, resident camp, or other special events; and for items purchased in the Girl Scout Store that will enrich her experience. This credit accumulates throughout her years as a Girl Scout.

The Cookie Program also empowers girls themselves to decide how to spend part of the proceeds – including ways to make the world a better place and lead change in their communities. Active participation will provide funds for the troop’s activities, and helps to underwrite the costs of all council campsites, facilities and programs, making them affordable for all girls.

Every year the resources grow. Did you know …

Don’t forget … it’s not too late to sell Girl Scout Cookies! If you’re not yet a Girl Scout, you can join online at If you are in a troop, talk to your troop leader about getting started. Individually registered Girl Scouts can participate as well. If you’re not sure who to contact, send a quick email
