Presented by the College of Human Sciences at OSU and funded by the Bartlett Family Grant to Promote Independent Living, this summer day cam will give Oklahoma high school students the opportunity to design assistive devices for people of different ages with various physical disabilities. As students learn from hands-on experiences they will apply their knowledge to creating prototypes meant to aid people in local and international travel activities Prototypes will be considered for production!
Camper activities include
- Experiencing challenges of different disabilities through simulation
- Performing travel-related tasks with physical challenges in mind
- Evaluating current available assistive devices
- Creating assistive device prototypes for travelers.
For this pilot program, only eight campers who will be completing 8th grade - 12 grade in May 2013 and who were encouraged to apply by their teachers, counselors or OSU affiliated persons will be selected by the OSU Camp Facility Members to attend. Students with and without physical disabilities are encouraged to apply. Please see flier and application for more details.
