The Juliette Low Leadership Society invites you to Pearls and Swirls for the McAlester Girls, an evening of summer wine and hors d’oeuvres with a silent auction. Join other community members supporting the local Girl Scouts in McAlester and surrounding areas.

Girl Scouting has been a long tradition in this part of the state going back to the early 1920s. For generations, strong young women of courage, confidence, and character grow into well educated citizens who give back to their community, be it locally or wherever their life takes them.

Here are some examples of what your support makes possible:

  • Powered Up anti-bullying program which teaches the proper manner to deal with bully situations because "Doing Nothing is not an Option”

  • uniquely ME! Self-Esteem Program that is designed to address the issue of low self-esteem among young girls, a major factor behind risky behaviors such as eating disorders, substance abuse, and school dropouts.

  • Bronze, Silver, and Gold Awards - Girl Scouts' highest awards are designed to help girls and troops make a lasting difference in our community

  • Live Healthy, Lead Healthy Lifestyle Initiative, which encourages girls to maintain and promote a healthy, active lifestyle

  • A $1,500 higher education scholarship (this year awarded to Marissa Ann Hair, a deserving Girl Scout and high school senior) served out of the McAlester Girl Scout Service Center

  • In 2012, Mayor Steve Harrison issued a proclamation declaring ‘Year of the Girl’

The Girl Scout program in Pittsburg County and surrounding area is growing. Our girls are participating in programs such as travel journeys that take them from summer camp in Oklahoma to journey programs in other countries, and achieving distinguished awards in their Girl Scout program. Your attendance (or monetary gift if you cannot attend but still want to contribute) will support all girls from beginning Girl Scout Daisies to Girl Scout Ambassadors.
