New App Makes Finding Girl Scout Cookies Easy This Friday

Girl Scout Cookies have made an entrance with individual
girls selling to their customers, but the crowd favorite cookies are about to
go public as booth sales open Friday, February 21 throughout eastern Oklahoma
and continue through March 23. Six
varieties of cookies are on sale again this year, each at $4.00 per box: Thin
Mints, Samoas, Tagalongs, Trefoils, Do-Si-Dos, and Savannah Smiles.
Technology can help you find those booth sales, send
notifications when they are happening near you, and even give you an
opportunity to win a year’s supply of Girl Scout Cookies! The official
Cookie Finder app is available online at www.girlscoutcookies.org and for
iOS or Android. And if you vote for your favorite cookie with the new app
before February 28, you could win your fill of those delicious morsels!
To sweeten the deal even more, in eastern Oklahoma, five
drawings will be held for 5 cases of Girl Scout Cookies to celebrate the "Five
Skills” of the cookie program: goal setting, decision making, money management,
people skills, and business ethics.
Purchase 5 boxes of cookies at a cookie booth, submit your name and
number on the official "5 for Five” sheet, and five winners will be randomly
selected and notified in April.
More than just a sweet treat, these cookies are part of the
premiere financial literacy program for youth and the nation’s largest girl-led
business. Recent findings through the Girl Scout Research Institute show
that girls ages 8-17 have big dreams but their readiness to pursue those dreams
is in question. While most surveyed agree they’ll be able to provide for
their families, own a home one day, make a lot of money, and give back to their
communities, only 12 percent of girls today feel "very confident” making
When it comes to skill building, the research shows very positive
outcomes connected to the Girl Scout Cookie Program. Girl Scout "cookie
entrepreneurs” report learning great things:
- 85% learn money management by developing
budgets, taking cookie orders, and handling customers’ money.
- 83% build business ethics
- 80% learn goal setting
- 77% improve decision making
- 75% develop people skills
Not surprisingly, Girl Scout alumnae credit the Cookie Sale
for their confidence to pursue goals and find success - especially in the area
of business or entrepreneurship.
Community support not only builds strong futures for these
young women, but it helps them as they invest in their current dreams.
Cookie proceeds allow each individual girl to build toward experiences she
chooses, such as camp or travel or service projects. All proceeds stay
within the local Girl Scout council to provide programs and opportunities at
individual, troop, service unit, and council levels.
Girl Scouts of Eastern Oklahoma thanks you for your
support! For those who would like to request cookies, inquire about bulk
business purchases, or donate cookies to soldiers with Operation Cookie Drop,
