From March 6-17, 2023, four Girl Scouts from Eastern Oklahoma will serve as delegates at the United Nations headquarters in New York City during the 67th Session of the Commission on the Status of Women, with three GSEOK Girl Scouts being chosen to speak at parallel events.
Each year, over 5,000 women and girls from around the world gather for this two-week session focused on the worldwide state of gender equality. Girl Scouts of Eastern Oklahoma is one of only 5 Girl Scout councils (out of over 100 councils in the USA) selected to send a delegation for the 2023 session.
During the Commission on the Status of Women, girls will attend sessions, listen to speakers, and advocate for what they believe is important and relevant for girls today. They will engage with non-governmental organizations, UN Agencies, Country Missions, and other youth delegates from around the world.
In addition, the GSEOK delegates will also be talking at Girl Scout parallel events about STEM, digital literacy, access to technology in the rural areas, and the importance of Girl Scouts and other organizations to champion digital literacy for girls.
