Every girl deserves a chance to see the world. Join Girl Scouts of Eastern Oklahoma as we travel to Washington, D.C and New York in July 2018. Visit the sites at our nation’s capital. Get to see the hustle and bustle of city life in New York. Maybe even visit another state along the way. You get to help decide what activities we do on the trip and where all we visit. As a group we will have planning meetings together to vote on and plan our trip. Girls must be going into 8th grade for the 2018-2019 school year to attend the trip.

Cost of the trip will be $1600 with a $100 non-refundable deposit. After paying the initial deposit girls can use Cookie Credit to pay the remainder of the fee. As a group we can also plan and participate in extra money-earning projects. Girls may also apply for a travel scholarship through council.

FAQs about council-sponsored trips:
What’s included in the program fee? Transportation costs, all meals, overnight accommodations, entrance fees to all attractions, all activities, patches, Girl Scout insurance, and group t-shirt.

Why is travel important for girls? Girls will gain independence and learn important leadership skills on the trips. Girls will learn to navigate a new city they are visiting using public transportation and using maps skills. They will have to use money management as they budget for the activities we plan. Manners and etiquette are taught and fun fancy nights out. If going aboard girls may even learn a new language. These are just some of the independent skills girls will be taking away from council trips.

How do I know my Girl Scout will be safe? Safety of girls is always our number one priority. Although the girls are planning the trips, council staff will make sure that the activities are safe and appropriate. We will not go to places in which are not safe.

Can I attend the trip with my daughter? Council trips are meant to be girl-based trips, which means we want to take as many girls as possible on a trip with the minimum number of adults needed. These trips are for girls, not adults. You can apply to chaperone a trip but we do not guarantee chaperone spots. Only special circumstances will allow chaperones to attend a trip with their daughters but that is at the council’s discretion.

What if my Girl Scout doesn’t know anyone on the trip? That’s ok! The girls are from all over eastern Oklahoma so they will have that in common. She will be able to make new friends with girls her own age. We will have planning meetings and in-person get-togethers as a group before the trip as a chance to get to know one another.
