Badge: Mechanical Engineering: Paddle Boats
Level: Juniors
Set sail on an engineering adventure! Girl Scouts will explore the basics of mechanical engineering by learning how boats move through water and experimenting with different paddle boat designs. After building their own boats, girls will put their creations to the test in the Paddle Boat Challenge, racing them across the water and evaluating how different design choices affect performance.
Girls will also discover how engineering and technology work together through an interactive floating Sphero robot demonstration, exploring how coding can be used to control movement and solve real-world challenges on the water.
Through hands-on experimentation, teamwork, and problem-solving, girls will complete the requirements for the Junior Mechanical Engineering: Paddle Boat badge while exploring concepts such as buoyancy, propulsion, design iteration, robotics, and coding.
If attending as a troop, troops must have leadership present who completed the Beyond the Meeting training and an adult who has a current First Aid/CPR-training. Troops must follow all guidelines for trips outside the regular troop meeting, which includes permission slips, green sheets, and girl/adult ratio.
An individual girl may register with an attending caregiver.
