Girl Scout Mia R. of Troop 7121 is leading with purpose and pride. The Wright City teen was recently crowned 2024 Junior Miss Indian Oklahoma during the 50th Anniversary celebration of the Miss Indian Oklahoma pageant—an honor that highlights her passion for service and community.
Mia has chosen the preservation of the Choctaw language as her platform, a focus inspired by her grandmother, a fluent speaker and language teacher. She supports younger students by reading with them, teaching basic Choctaw words, and helping fellow pageant participants confidently introduce themselves in Choctaw.
As a Girl Scout Senior, Mia has also submitted a Gold Award proposal to co-write a Pledge to the Choctaw Flag alongside her grandmother. With support from the Choctaw Nation Language Department, the pledge is being translated and will serve as a lasting resource for cultural education.
Mia’s leadership reflects the core values of Girl Scouting—confidence, connection, and community impact—and her work is helping ensure the Choctaw language continues to be heard and celebrated.
