Flex Troops are a new way to Girl Scout at Girl Scouts of Eastern Oklahoma. They are built for busy families who want everything a traditional troop offers, with additional support from trained Girl Scout staff. In a Flex Troop, leadership is shared.

Our staff handle much of the planning and facilitation, and parent volunteers partner alongside them. Your Girl Scout still gets the badges, the field trips, the cookie program, the friendships, and the leadership experience. You just do not have to carry it all on your own.

Why did we create Flex Troops?

The number one thing we hear from interested families is that the leadership commitment feels out of reach. Flex Troops let us meet families where they are by rebalancing what parents carry and what our staff provide.

Our hope is simple: open doors in communities we have not reached yet, so that every girl in eastern Oklahoma who wants to be a Girl Scout has a troop to join.

What does a Flex Troop parent do? toggle arrow

Parents partner with staff rather than lead alone. That can look like helping at meetings, chaperoning an outing, or supporting the cookie program. Trained Girl Scout staff handle the leadership and facilitation of the troop experience.

Is a Flex Troop still a "real" Girl Scout troop? toggle arrow

Yes. Flex Troop members are registered Girl Scouts with full access to badges, journeys, camp, travel, the product and cookie programs, and everything else Girl Scouting offers.

What grades and areas are eligible? toggle arrow

All of them! Flex Troops are open to every grade level, from Daisies through Ambassadors, and are available anywhere across our 30 county council. If there is interest in your school or community, we want to hear about it.

Where do Flex Troops meet? toggle arrow

Flex Troops are designed to meet in after school settings and community sites, making participation easier for families with full schedules.

Who leads the troop? toggle arrow

A Girl Experience Program Facilitator, a full time GSEOK staff member, leads and facilitates the Girl Scout Leadership Experience at each site. The Facilitator also recruits girls and adult volunteers, builds relationships with school administrators and community partners, and serves as the main point of contact for the product and cookie programs at Flex Troop sites.

No. Traditional troops remain the heart of Girl Scouting, and we will keep supporting our volunteer leaders every step of the way. Flex Troops are an additional option, not a replacement.
