Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math: STEM pervades every aspect of our society, and is the engine of our future. Girl Scouts is committed to reducing the STEM gap by making sure girls feel supported and confident in exploring these exciting and important fields, despite the societal pressure, stereotypes, and obstacles they may encounter.
When girls participate in Girl Scout STEM programs, they benefit in four important ways:
The goal of these outcomes is simple: to let girls know that STEM is for them. Each of these outcomes builds resilience and persistence in girls and helps them form life-long identities as scientists, innovators, engineers, and mathematicians.
Developed by our STEM Advisory Committee, our STEM Strategic Plan sets out a three-year strategy based on a vision where all Girl Scouts are inspired and empowered to excel in STEM fields of study and succeed in 21st-century careers as leaders and trailblazers. It represents an urgent call to action for a community-wide collaboration with girls, families, educators, and employers – a guide for the organization as it collectively charts a course for each and every girls’ success.
