Buffalo River Canoe Trip
Outdoor Adventure Activities and Trips for Older Girl Scouts
Outdoor trips are an important step in a girl's growth within Girl Scouts. They help girls gain the skills and confidence to participate in activities beyond their troop. Spending time away from home, working with different peers, and learning to navigate new experiences as part of a group lays the foundation for future individual adventures in Girl Scouting and beyond.
For weekend outdoor trips, we ask that girls leave their personal cell phones at home. We've found that time away from screens helps girls be more present, connect meaningfully with each other, and fully engage in the activities and adventures we've planned. These trips are a great opportunity for girls to build confidence, independence, and friendships without the distractions that come with constant phone use.
To ensure everyone's safety and peace of mind, designated adult leaders will carry cell phones at all times. In the event of an emergency, families will be contacted right away using the emergency contact information provided. If a girl needs to reach home during the trip, she may ask a leader to call on their behalf. Families will also have the council point of contact ahead of time in case anything urgent arises during the trip.
Thank you for supporting this screen-free policy and helping us create a meaningful, safe, and connected experience for all.
