Be prepared for outdoor adventures!
When you are out on an adventure away from home, help might be
hours away. This special one-day non-certificate course introduces
Girl Scouts ages 14 and up to the essentials of Wilderness First Aid
for remote situations. Through hands-on practice and realistic
scenarios, you'll learn how to recognize problems, keep yourself and
others safe, and care for common outdoor injuries and illnesses until
help arrives.
What you'll do in this course:
Learn how to prepare ahead of time, and how to check a patient in the wilderness.
Prevent and care for injuries from cuts, blisters, and sprains to dehydration and hypothermia using both first aid supplies and improvised gear.
Recognize and assess environmental hazards and medical concerns
Work together in teams to solve real-life scenarios like "sprained ankle on the trail" or "hiker with hypothermia."
This event is designed to build confidence, teamwork, and leadership for older Girl Scouts as they prepare for bigger outdoor adventures.
Basic First Aid CPR class encouraged but not required.
Additional adult volunteers may be needed.
