Get ready to turn recycled materials into fall festival fun at Pumpkin Palooza: Game Makers! Daisy, Brownie, and Junior Girl Scouts will work in teams to dream up, design, and build their very own carnival or fall festival-style game using recycled materials.

The challenge begins before event day! Teams will design and build their games ahead of time and must bring their completed, ready-to-play game to Pumpkin Palooza. Prior to the event, each team will also meet virtually with Martin, STEAM Girl Experience Manager, to share their game idea, discuss their plan, and receive approval to move forward. Additional information, including competition rules, game requirements, and guidelines, will be sent to registered teams.

On event day, it's time to bring the festival to life! The official event runs from 2:00-5:00 p.m., with teams able to arrive as early as 11:00 a.m. to set up their game. During Pumpkin Palooza, girls will take turns running their team's game while exploring and playing the creative games built by other teams. Games will be part of a fun and friendly competition celebrating creativity, teamwork, and innovative use of recycled materials.

Girls do not have to be on a team with members of their own troop, opening the door to new friendships and collaboration. Through the entire Game Makers challenge-from brainstorming and building to running their finished game-girls will practice teamwork, creativity, problem-solving, and sustainability while working toward the Green 2 patch.

Before You Register: Team Requirements

Pumpkin Palooza: Game Makers is a team-based competition that begins before event day! Please review these requirements before registering:

  • Games must be designed and built before Pumpkin Palooza. Teams should arrive on event day with a completed, ready-to-play game.
  • Games must be created using recycled and repurposed materials. Specific rules and guidelines about allowable materials will be provided after registration.
  • Each team must complete a virtual Game Check-In with Martin, STEAM Girl Experience Manager, before the event. During this meeting, teams will share their game idea, ask questions, and receive approval for their design.
  • Teams are responsible for transporting, setting up, and taking down their game. Please keep transportation in mind when planning the size and design of your creation!
  • Early setup begins at 11:00 a.m. Teams may arrive anytime during the designated setup window to prepare their game before Pumpkin Palooza opens at 2:00 p.m.
  • The competition and festival run from 2:00-5:00 p.m. Teams will have opportunities to run their game and explore and play games created by other teams.
  • Teams do not have to be made up of girls from the same troop. Girls are welcome to team up and create together across troops.

More information about team sizes, game requirements, competition rules, judging, recycled-material guidelines, setup, and the required virtual Game Check-In will be sent to registered teams.
