Earlier this June, Girl Scouts from the Riversbend Service Unit teamed up with Christ Church Tulsa and local nonprofit Thursday Night Light to serve dinner to approximately 125 individuals experiencing homelessness in downtown Tulsa.
The evening was more than a service project — it was a powerful example of what Girl Scouting looks like in action.
Under the guidance of troop leaders and parent volunteers, the Girl Scouts prepared the meal the night before, helped set up serving stations, and spent the evening offering conversation, care, and community to guests who gathered for a hot meal. For many of the girls, it was their first time seeing how small actions — a smile, a plate of food, a moment of connection — can make a meaningful difference.
The event was made possible by a collaboration with Thursday Night Light, a Tulsa-based grassroots organization dedicated to feeding those in need each week. Christ Church Tulsa provided kitchen space, meal supplies, and additional volunteers to help the evening run smoothly.
True to the Girl Scout mission, the project centered leadership, empathy, and hands-on service. Girls weren’t just observing — they were actively involved in preparing, serving, and engaging with their community.
In a world that often feels overwhelming, these Girl Scouts showed up with compassion and courage. And in doing so, they reminded everyone that leadership can be as simple as showing up to serve — with heart.
