GSEOK's Walt Whitman Troop 4070 had lots of fun today planting an herb garden at Saint Simeon’s! The girls planted sweet basil, Thai basil, rosemary, sage, marigolds, and petunias. Some residents came out to watch and really enjoyed themselves as well. One used to be an avid gardener and gave the girls some tips (and she volunteered to tend to the garden and check for weeds!), and another told them about selling cookies in her day as a Girl Scout!
Once they finished planting, they decorated the garden with rocks the girls had painted earlier in the school year. The painted rocks were part of their "Outdoor Art" badge that they earned in March. The girls also had lots of fun with the peacocks, fish, and turtles on the property. Everyone then enjoyed a pizza lunch and the girls got gardening patches! Huge thank you to Saint Simeon's for hosting and to Walt Whitman for their awesome Girl Scouts!
